8 pin and 4 pin power cables

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

No, you don't need a new PSU. Leave the 4 pin unplugged, should be fine.

Hi there

i was thinking of changing my motherboard and case(into a Pure Base 500DX), from a Gigabyte B560m Gaming HD to a MSI MAG B560 Torpedo. I checked with pcpartpicker and was given a warning that the MSI MAG B560 Torpedo might require a 4 pin power cables for the CPU on top of the 8 pin. My cooler master G700 PSU did not have the 4 pin power thingy and only an 8 pin.

is the 4 pin power cables to the CPU really necessary and i have to buy another PSU or is it just used for overclocking?

This is my PC spec, if that helps

CPU: i5-11600k

GPU: Zotac RTX 3060Ti

Case: Cooler Master MasterBox MB311L ARGB

RAM: Kingston Fury DDR4 3600Mhz 16GB (2x8GB) RGB

SSD: Lexar NVME 512 GB

and a Cooler Master 212 Turbo
