Sooo Hai guys.
I've been overclocking my card the last couple hours, but I've noticed some ''problems''..
When I run MSI Kombustor Direct3D 11 Benchmark, it says my core clock is 992Mhz, Memory clock 3304, which is all fine and dandy.. except 1 thing.. I also have GPU Tweak open, and that's where I change my clock speeds, and I've been increwasing it with ~25 each time checking for instabilities, but nothing so far, and here's a picture of my screen right now : http://prntscr.com/39m55v
As you can see, my Boost clock is @ 1200, but on the MSI Kombuster it shows 992. :(
I'm new to overclocking, but this doesn't make sense to me.
Also why does the Memory show 3.304 instead of the 6.600 on GPU tweak ? D:
I'm so new so this, so sorry for being stupid about this :L

Thanks for all help in advance !

P.s been running Kombustor for like 40 minutes and temps stays at 62-64.

The memory speed is the same. It's just different ways of showing it. It's GDDR (Graphical Double Data Rate) RAM, which means that you have to double it. Apperantly GPU Tweak does that for you.

I do not know how MSi Kombuster measures it's core clocks, so I don't know if it is wrong. It can have something to do with the fact that it's based on FurMark. NVidia cards don't always performe their best in that program, due to some card blowing up in the past.

I would recommend you to enable the OSD in GPU Tweak (If it has that feature, else install MSi Afterburner), and make it show the core clock, the memory clock and the temperature. Then play a graphic heavy game to test the overclock.

I have MSI afterburner installed, want a picture of it when I load it up ? :)

Edit : here's a picture of Afterburner if you need it :D

What I think you should do is try a different program for testing the overclock. Either use a game or Unigin Heaven.

And try taking a screenshot of Afterburner so I can see what clock speed it reports. You just scroll down in the right window in Afterburner.

Here's a picture of it after been running for a bit : http://prntscr.com/39mkn2

It's been running at constant 52+ fps too, from what I've noticed anyway ^^

And it's still running pretty cool at 63-66 Degreese max :o

P.s I turned the core clock slightly down, because it crashed once after a couple minutes. I'll let this run for 10minutes more and see if anything happens

The temeprature shouldn't go up, untill you start overvolting the GPU. And from what the picture show, it runs as it should, but correct me if I'm wrong.

And just a tip. Only overclock one thing at the time. Start with the GPU and then try overclocking the memory. This makes it easier to find out what causes instability.

Yeah, I boosted the memory clock and core clock at the same time (only first time though) then after I finished 20min in Kombustor, I remembered that Linus said on NCIX's channel that you should only overclock 1 thing at a time. ^^

And you said the temps shouldn't go up before I overvolt the gpu.. isn't overvolting bad for your gpu ?

Also - While overclocking, anything you want me to watch out for ? Since I'm new to this, it'd be nice to know :)

Gonna hope for a 4.2 overclock on my 4670k too, anything above that, being spare headroom :D

Overvolting isn't necessarily bad, but it does cause highetemperatures, which can be bad for the chip. Extreme overvolting can be bad though, but there is no way you can do that with modding the card and/or the graphics cards BIOS. By moving the power limit you are overvolting, although it isn't very much.

While overclocking the GPU and memory, keep a look out for artifacts (Bright dots, usually red or green). These are a sign of an unstable overclock. And of course crashing is a sign aswell.

And 4.2GHz on a Haswell chips seems like a realistic overclock, so have fun with that.

Thanks for the tips, mate. Appreciate it. :D

I believe I finally found my max clock speed, as it's +228 on my core clock (Seems like that's 1137 absolute clock) and currently playing around with the memory clock. If that becomes unstable, will it be the same kinda graphical errors as you mentioned ?

And about the CPU, yeah. It sounds realistic, sadly first time I tried putting it on 4.2 I got bluescreen at windows login screen, but, granted, that was via AI Suit, and the only thing I did was select 4200Mhz. So I'm gonna go a bit more in debt with Linus on the side showing step by step with his Haswell Overclocking video, since I have a Maximus VI Formula, it'll be the same as what he's doing :)

The memory should give the same signs of instability as the GPU.
