Triple monitors. sound system, etc between PC and mac

NoEnd

Hi all,

I'm planning to buy an M1 Max laptop soon and currently own a PC. I want to easily switch between them (With a click of a button or remove 1 cable only).

  • I have 3 monitors (2 HDMI and 1 DP)
  • 5.1 stereo system
  • Keyborad and Mouse
  • Monitor dock station
  • Webcam
  • Ethernet

I found many solutions that depends on USB 3 dock station, not sure how I will still be able to use my PC GPU?

You need thunderbolt. Usb 3 docks do NOT use the gpu of your computers.

Thanks for the reply, how physically the gpu will be used?

With a usb 3 dock not at all. It uses a internal "graphics card" that at best can run 2d applications.

These are not applicable in your situation.

Thunderbolt yeah whatever just get a add in card if you motherboard supports that and connect the gpu to it.

You want a KVM for this use case really. One that will let you run and switch a USB hub.

But for 3 monitors, assuming you want proper switching and EDID passthrough (which you do unless you want to rearrange all your desktop icons every time you switch), you're looking at spending pretty big money.
