I'm looking at parts for a possible Minecraft(+ some other stuff) server build, and this is what I have so far:

(All parts are subject to change, I just threw this together really quick)

Case: Fractal Design Core 1000

CPU: Xeon E3-1240 V3

RAM: 16GB Kingston KVR1333D3E9SK2

MoBo: Intel Server Board S1200V3RPS

SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB

PSU: Seasonic G-360W

(Note: The price of these parts is pretty much my max. budget for this build)

First of all: The main reason I'm going for a Xeon is for the ECC memory, but I'm not sure if this kit I picked is compatible with the motherboard - if someone knows and could help me, that'd be great.

Second: Am I missing anything essential that I somehow managed to forget in this build? I'm assuming the motherboard has some form of built-in (crappy) graphics and that the Xeon comes with a stock cooler, but am I wrong?

And lastly: If there are any experienced Minecraft server owners reading this - do you have any recommendations to improve this build (like, is faster memory important)? My aim is to have a lag-free experience with a Spigot server and a moderate amount of plugins with around 100+ players max. My internet upload speed is ~100Mbps, so that (hopefully) shouldn't be a concern.

By the way, I live in Sweden, so you probably don't need to link sites to buy any of your part suggestions.

My rig: Case: Corsair Vengeance C70 - Military Green | Mobo: ASUS P8Z77-V Pro | CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K @ 4.4GHz | Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 SC | RAM: Corsair 16GB 1600MHz Vengeance | Sound Card: ASUS Xonar Essence STX | PSU: Corsair AX 750W SSD 1: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD 2: OCZ Vertex 4 256GB HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB Cooler: Corsair H100 OS: Windows 10 Pro | Fans: Noctua NF-F12 PWM

Peripherals: Mouse: Logitech G502 Proteus Core | Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow 2013 | Headset: Audio Technica ATH-AD700X | Microphone: Antlion ModMic 4.0 | Mouse mat: Steelseries QcK+ | Monitors: BenQ XL2411T + EIZO Foris FS2331

What other things are going to be done on this server? What OS? Storage required? RAID Needed?

1. I was thinking of perhaps running some Source-game server on it at the same time (only maybe)

2. I've seen a lot of Minecraft server hosts recommend Debian or CentOS, but I'm not 100% sure.

3. Not really, just a small SSD for the server itself and I'll do frequent backups to an external location.

4. Same as above

Perfect. Give me like 2 minutes.

Intel Xeon E3-1240-V3 - $289

SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SLL-F-O uATX Server Motherboard - $209.99

Kingston 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Registered DDR3 1333 Server Memory Model: KVR13LR9S4L/8 - $93.99 x4 = $375.96

Fractal Design Core 1000 - $34.99

Intel 530 SSD 120GB - $129.99

Seasonic SSR-360GP - $69.99

Total in CDN: roughly $1100

In Krona: 6557

That's what i reccomend. Here's the reasoning:

You're going to want a lot of RAM to run that server. Minecraft will eat through 16GB like nothing when you get into hundred plus players. You can never have to much RAM. Also PSU is Gold rated. You have that thing running 24-7 you're going to want to save on power.

Thanks! That's very nice, but:

1. Are you sure 16GB is not enough? I've seen people able to run ~50 players with only 4GB and most people say even 8GB is overkill for an MC server.

2. The G-360 is also gold-rated, which is why I chose it.

3. There are very few server motherboards available from (well-known)Swedish vendors, I'd rather swap out the memory if it's not compatible.

Sure 16 should be fine. You can always add more.

What about the compatibility with that motherboard/chipset? (C222)
