As far as I know Apex does about the same as Nova, except for nova having more rows/columns since the most recent update, Apex will probably follow quickly, but until then, you could try doing this, it's all possible in the free version :)

GS3 / ReVolt 4.2.1 ROM / Nova Launcher / KXNT Minimal MIUI icons

Everyone on 4.1+ should use the Google Now widget. It's seriously useful if you use your calendar a lot or do any driving. Also any root users should get Greenify. Helps a lot with battery life and any lag you encounter when there's a lot of processes stacked up.

Edit: I just realized I'm using the same Icon for Youtube and my music player....
