Gigabyte Z690 Issues

Go to solution Solved by SpookyCitrus,

From what I've read the F6a bios has fixed it for most people, it could be a compatibility issue with your ram itself. Did you reset the CMOS after doing the bios update to F6a? If you have until February to return I'd recommend at least waiting for another bios update as this should be on the top of their fix list. I have also ordered this board, so I'm interested to see if it is fixed with an update. From what I have read the F6a update has fixed the issue for most users who had it.

I built a 12600k computer with a Gigabyte Z690 Elite AX DDR4 mobo.  But it seems to have this weird issue where at any amount of RAM overclocking (even just the XMP profile), I lose my stability, with programs and webpages crashing and my audio DAC disconnecting.  I thought it was a RAM issue since it got worse the faster the ram was, so I returned the RAM.  But I just put another kit in and it did the same thing.  A look on the Newegg page shows that while most people are happy with the board, there was someone who had a complaint about RAM stability.  I did even tried the latest bios F6a

My question: is it worth it to try to get a different motherboard?  I have until February to return it and would probably switch to the ASUS Tuf wifi board. But I would be out a main computer for 5 days or however long it takes to get a new mobo.

Any input would help! Thank you.

Thank you! I did not reset the CMOS after I updated.  It's not 100% perfect but now is 98% of the way there. No crashes so far in the apps that I have been using.  I had one instance of my webcam glitching but that was admittedly when I was stressing it out and not under normal conditions.  I'll hang on to this board for now.

As a minor review of the board, the hardware is incredible and has no issue getting my 12600k to 180W but its mainly software that's the issue.  The bios issues like I've had and Fusion RGB is abysmal.  Probably the last Gigabyte board I pick up but I won't be returning it if it's now this stable.  Just make sure the bios is updated before you install Windows.  It shipped with a prerelease BIOS that didn't even recognize my M.2 drives.

Will do thanks for the info. I've been using the Aorus boards for a few years now and love their features and quality of the boards. It's kind of hit or miss for all the manufacturers. I do agree RGB Fusion is pretty bad, I'm not a unicorn puke kind of guy so it works for me as I only set static colors. I'll make sure I update the bios prior to moving my drives over. Glad to hear the CMOS reset helped. I'm sure the next update will have more fixes as well.
