Corrupt MP4 files?

I have a set of MP4 files belonging to a certain movie series, and for some reason, at multiple points of each movie, the video freezes for about 5-10 seconds, then picks up where it froze, but with messed up audio. The audio becomes a sort of "bassy" static, and the audio from the movie cuts out. If I disable the audio track in VLC after it starts playing again, then reselect the audio track, it works, until it freezes the next time. The files throw an error when playing via Windows Media Player, and can't "recover."

 

What baffles me is these files have played flawlessly before.

 

Other MP4 and MKV files play fine. In fact, accessing anything else on that hard drive is fine. The files reside on a Samsung EcoGreen F2 1.5tb hard drive.

 

Any ideas?

Did you try using like a blu ray player or some player other than the computer to see if it plays properly?
