Hi all, I have been trying to figure out what are some top end earbuds to give as a Christmas gift to my partner. She previously had a pair of cheap ones that were unreliable and recently stopped working altogether.  I know LTT has a lot of videos reviewing them but it is difficult for me to figure out which would arguably be the best ones to use paired with android devices (pixel 3a). In my mind this rules out something like the air pods pro's because of the loss of functionality with android devices, though I may be wrong. Any advice from people with more experience would be greatly appreciated (I am still a headphone jack person)!!

I'd strongly consider the Pixel Buds A-Series. They're decent sounding, and obviously integrate very well with Android phones and Pixel devices, in particular. They're not outrageously priced, either. I got a pair for free with my Pixel 6 Pro, and don't really have any complaints. I do wish they had wireless charging, but they'd probably be more expensive if they did.

@SirWendall The skull candies (I do not recall the model) was the one that she had originally. Had to replace the first ones bought because they were defective and the 2nd ones were still problematic so I am trying to avoid that specific brand. Though I am glad that you have had a great experience with them!

Ok, you need to give us a lot more information to go on.

  • Do they need to have ANC?
  • Do they need a case that can recharge them?
  • Does size of the case matter?
  • And, most importantly, what's your budget?

@dizmo Sorry for the lack of information!

I do not think ANC is needed but definitely a plus, probably some good noise isolation would be sufficient

A case is definitely needed and charging would be great since occasionally they will be used on 8+ hour flights so being able to recharge them to extend the battery life would be nice.

As far as the case size goes smaller is probably better but not critical since it will likely live in a bag

The budget range I am looking at is pretty wide and lands in the 1-$250 range though obviously would prefer to come in cheaper if nothing meaningful is gained by going more expensive (if that makes sense)

I'd probably tilt my nod towards the Jabra 75ts. In testing they get about 2 hours more than the newer 85ts (they have better noise cancelling, though), and about an hour and a half more than the Pixel Buds per charge. They're also cheaper.

I'd also pick up a pair of Spinfit ear tips. They're cheap, and a lot better than stock.

@dizmo Thanks for the recommendation, I appreciate it! Based on your recommendation I looked into the Jabras (75 and 85ts) a little bit (still looking into them) and I was a little surprised that they rely on proper buttons as opposed to the "touch" systems that seems to be more common. I do not know if you have used them or not but do you find that to be a bit limiting or is it a non issue? Also thanks for pointing me to aftermarket ear tips, that is a great thing that I had not thought of.

I have used the Skullcandy Dimes and they are very good for their price, and the buttons I find more responsive and reliable than touch

here's a review of them https://www.rtings.com/headphones/reviews/skullcandy/dime-true-wireless

right now i use the Skullcandy hesh evo and those are also fairly good headphones with 36 hours of battery life.

more earbuds

I own the 75t Jabras. The buttons on the side are a non-issue. You tap the right earbud to play/pause music and there's 3 tap controls on the left earbud. (ANC on/Hearthrough/ANC off) I'm not sure if you missed my previous post, but they are currently on sale for $80 right now (normally $150) and I'd say that's an excellent deal. I use them every day, most of the day at work.

Thanks for that insight, they seem like a pretty good deal and glad to hear that the buttons are a non issue.

They’re better than AirPods and they’re moving away from the bass heavy approach

they still feel kind of bad, and about the sound they need to change a lot more. bass isn't always bad the crushers sound good, they also have a bass slider.
