GPU Effective vs. Target clockspeeds

Huh, I did not know this... Have anyone else been experimenting with this? I'm currently at work and I just learned of this. When I come home, I will test and see how far off my "overclock" is

Just a small update, if anyone ever reads this thread

I just tested this on my own system and yes - overclocking using Voltage Curve, that does produce a more weak overclock, meaning the Effective Clock is much slower than Target Clock. The Effective Clock using Voltage Curve overclock is nearly 100MHz lower than Target Clock. My Target Clock / normal core clock stops at 2100MHz but my Effective Clocks only peaks at 2004MHz. When I use my Offset overclock, my Target Clock hits 2160MHz and Effective Clock peaks at 2154MHz. So it seem that the Offset OC is a fair bit stronger than the Voltage Curve OC. (Both OC's were with 20Gbps memory OC)

But what's kinda funny though is that my overclock using the Voltage Curve scores almost the same as my overclock using offsets in Heaven, even though the Offset OC clock higher. See below:

Voltage Curve: 

FPS 109.6

Score 2761

Min FPS 35.9

Max FPS 216.7

 

Offset:

FPS 111.0

Score 2796

Min FPS 35.6

Max FPS 227.8

Heaven settings: 4000x1431 8xAA windowed, Custom, Ultra Quality, Extreme Tessellation

 

Only real difference is the Max FPS peak. 

Either tonight or tomorrow, I will do some 3DMark benches and compare the two OC's. Maybe the Effective clock doesn't really matter?
