Should i upgrade my cpu?

I have an Ryzen 5 2600X with an gtx 1660ti.

 

Should I and is it worth it for me to upgrade to an Ryzen 5 or 7 series 5gen procesor?

Hi, i have similar setup. Honestly speaking, ill wait until it starts flowing on used market if you dont have the money to make a full platform hop with DDR5 when Ryzen 6000 series and i5 12400F with B6xx motherboard coming out. When that happens, depending on the VRM, you should get a 5600x. Or, you can ignore that and move to 1440p and run something like 3060Ti or 3070 if you can find one. Im still kinda split in this myself.

If you aren't happy with its performance then I suppose, provided you have an X470 or later motherboard with the latest BIOS that supports Ryzen 5000 series CPUs.

 

As for if it's worth it, with your 1660Ti it isn't worth it if you are just doing gaming, as you will then be held back by the GPU. If you plan on upgrading your GPU any time soon then sure it's probably worth it depending on what card you might want. 

 

Personally I would just wait until Zen 4, since it'll support DDR5 RAM. You'd have to do a whole new build at that point. By then the supply and prices for DDR5 should hopefully be pretty decent.

The market has already cut pricing on the 5XXX series CPUs. Pricing is only going to get lower if you can wait to upgrade.

I wouldn't, the 2600x is fine with that 1660Ti.  Hold off for another generation.

heavily depends on what games you play

 

if you are like me and see your GPU at 10% while your CPU is at 95%, it might not be the worst idea, but if you play AAA games, it's possible that the GPU is the bottleneck

As stated, depends on what games. If you're playing 1080p/low esports with a high refresh monitor, a CPU upgrade will help. Same goes for MMOs.

 

Often in those games when FPS tanks your GPU is sleeping on the CPU to catch up
