Not sure where in this forum this fits.

I have Comcast aka Xfinity because it's all that's available that isn't dialup. I live in NM, and the fact that dialup is one of the only other options is I think surreal is the word?

Anyway!

I'm mulling over, I am perculating on. Star link. Who's used star link? what's it like compared to xfinity?  I ask because comcast is going full on MaBell, robocop and Maxhedroom levels of lunacy. Never ending  throttling, dropped service nearly constantly. It was bad back in 2020. now it's every so many minutes, i'll have a game or show going. then the stream just stops. Poof. Just stops. Just as an example of the problem. I can be on amazon watching a so bad to be good flick or even TV show if it's on prime. and when then browser itself stops being connected.

So I thought I'd ask what all peoples experience with Star Link is so far.  One of my issues would be snow.  it'd  probably physics problem getting a satalight connection with it's snowing (even if the dish is clear) just because clouds and what not tend to physically block a connection.

The other concern is: it's tesela and all that comes with.

well given the current waitlists for starlink, you'd be looking at around late 2022-early 2023 for getting it set up.

What the actual fuck is wrong with companies now.  L2fucking user support!

I'd be impressed if user support would be worse than comcast though.

I currently have starlink and it is amazing (Australia). i live in a rural area so my only other option is 7mbps down ADLS shit-tier internet.

I don't have a problem with snow where i am, but the dish does have a build in heater to make sure it doesn't get piled up too much and prevent it from working. Even during heavy storms it's rarely affected

It does still have the very occasional drop out for a few seconds (maybe 2-3 times a week for me at the moment) but they are still running on much fewer satellites than the final product.

If you need 100% uptime 24/7, it's not there yet

uhhhhh no. SpaceX  and Tesla are completely different companies with completely different staff. the only similarity is that they were both founded by Elon Musk and 2 other people are part of the board of both companies.

Never change internet.

Anyway. My new dragon on a lawn is this. I have had enough of comcast being just...um well a bunch of fucking wanks. My Top 3 demands: significantly better raw speed, uptime and user support than ConCast, who, as far as I can tell. Is not happy untill on phone pissed the fuck off, and putting Freddie Murcury, plus a few sailers to shame for how much I motherfuck someone. I haven't had them listen and actually send someone to climb a pole right infront of my drive unless I do. Which is bad. I get a headache for one.

80 to 90% uptime would be an improvement over comcast for me.

Thats funny because Im with Comcast and have none of those problems. Most of the time I get 20% more than what is paid for with their over provisioning. Comcast doesnt throttle, 9 time out of 10 its eiather your have a problem with your service and your modem is not grabbing on to all the downstream/upstream channels or your node is overloaded. Same thing with dropping of service, thats a lot of time interference on the coax. That interference could be within your own home or out on the network. I would ask your neighbors if they have issues.

My only grip with them is the stupid data caps. Because we have the curb usage a bit, especially as we get closer to xmas as we tend to be home more as its Michgian and its cold and crappy outside.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
