So i was helping a friend and gave him my old RAM kit. I was mixing with his kit.

Now they both work fine at the same timmings/voltage/speed on their own.

They run fine all together at lower speed (same timmings and voltage).

Now i know they can all do 3200Mz separate, but for some reason they refuse to do 3200Mhz together, only went to 3000Mhz (same timmings and voltage)

Now this is a mystery right? what am i missing? sure it's not a big difference, still this is weird to me

sorry for the bad english.

How many modules (sticks of RAM) are involved?

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

Separate is one thing, but the memory controller needs to OC 2 different sets at the same time and that can be a bit much.

3000 vs 3200 isn't much difference, I'd be happy they ran together at all.

There's 4 sticks, 2 brands, and one pair was 2 different dies (bought at different times)

As @Dedayog said, the memory controller may not be able to handle the task, and one pair of sticks not being 100% a matched pair makes that harder.

ok thanks then.

I didn't even knew they did that until recently, they are exactly identical, same brand, same sku, same speed, same timings, same everything but different dies. This doesn't help when someone just wants to upgrade, they should just make a different model i think. Anyway.

It is always safer to buy RAM in sets of two, in the same box instead of two single sticks in two packs.

It is unfortunate that has happened to you, but you know for next time.  🙂

3000MHz should still give better performance than before... good luck.

i just told him no point spending money on a new one, and he wanted 3200Mhz. I did my best 🙂

I would suggest that if he 'must have 3200' he get the total capacity of four sticks as a kit of TWO sticks & replace all four... two RAM stick are easier for any CPU to control than four, anyway.  If you suggest this to him, too... then yes, you did your best.  🙂

Did you clear the cmos first? Pull the battery and insert your sticks, then plug in the battery. It should make things a bit easier if it’s going to run nice.

No. I never even reset the bios, because even when it didn't work it never got frozen, just power cycle 2 times and reset itself to a lower speed.

If you think it may help, i'm certainly going to give it a try later (i'm no longer at his house now)

Internal timing registers change when moving from two to four and vice versa.
