Android forgot lock screen password

My phone died earlier and when I charged it and went to reboot the phone it would not recognize my password. I do not have any other way of getting past the lock screen right now other than doing a factory reset, though I really do not want to lose all my contacts, texts, and pictures. Do any of you guys know a solution? I'm freaking pissed and have looked through the internet pretty hard and outside of some paid programs, not that I trust them, I see no way out.

Only way to bypass it I know of is to have an unlocked bootloader, but the process of unlocking it factory resets the phone, so unless you've already got it unlocked, you're SOL. Hope you made a backup of your phone pretty recently (contacts and apps to backup to Google's servers by default, so you probably won't lose everything).
