Replacing my 2.5 inch SSD boot drive to an NVMe drive

Hello, I bought a Crucial P5 Plus NVME 500GB drive and want to use that as my new boot drive. I'm currently using a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB.

How would I do that without doing a fresh Windows install?

Thanks heaps :)

You need a tool to copy the drive. It -IS- that simple, but you may need to manually edit the UEFI settings in the BIOS afterwards if you intend to reuse the drive.

There are free/trial tools out there, but I'm hard pressed to recommend one, as you can pretty much just use the Windows (7) backup tool to do it.

Thanks, does windows 10 have it's own cloning tool?

I have used macrium reflect 7 free edition to clone my ssd to nvme.

https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree

I have recently used this software to swap ssd's my self. It does work well.

I went from a nvme 950 pro to a nvme 980 pro.
