Task manager not reporting the same clock speed as other tools

Hi,
I have recently decided to delve into the world of overclocking and I have come across task manager reporting a different CPU frequency to CPU-z, core temp and AMD overdrive (which i used to change the multiplier as I like GUIs). I am wondering if this is normal or if I have done something wrong and if I should go into the BIOS and OC my CPU that way.

Task manager displays core speed? That must be in win8.

 

Cpu-z is almost always correct in everything it displays. I just wish it had a Gpu-z and HWMonitor built in...

 

 

 

Always use the bios for overclocking unless you have a real good reason for software overclocking. Just ask questions about the bios/uefi around the forum or Google.

Its common in windows 8 that is displays the wrong Cpu freq' in task manager. Tends to be the default speed of the cpu but there has been times when it windows 8 task manager has reported higher/lower cpu freq'.

 

I would stick to CPU-Z for true readings of Cpu freq' . Overclocking is best done in the bios/uefi but low overclocks are ok via software GUI's. Best to do large/extreme overclocks in the bios/uefi only.

I went into the BIOS and got it to 4.2Ghz, making sure it's stable now though. Thanks for the advise :)
