Why doesnt this controller work?

My friend recently gave me his old broken Xbox controller. He apparently got so mad one day and threw it at a wall. I had some spare xbox controller parts but once I opened this new controller I saw there was no physical issues whatsoever. I first thought the board that controls the buttons and stuff was broken but I tested it and it works perfectly. Once i tried to test the joystick board with any other asembly i had, the controller never powered on. The controller only powered on if I used a different controller joystick board. What is causing this issue? Are there any common issues that occur with throwing and that board? I cant seem to find anyone experiencing the same thing. Thankyou for your help!

Theres probably a Short on the Joystick board causing it to not function. He probably broke something in the internal PCB  or one of the chips you can see well with the naked eye.
