Why is a used Vega 56 as much as a used RTX2080?

Furudal

Hello everybody,
I bought a used Vega 56 in April 2019 for 280€ (~$330). Obviously it got more expensive since then. Today I checed on ebay here in Germany. A used 1080 Ti, which I consider generally superior in gaming, is usually 80-100€ (~$90-$115) cheaper than the Vega 56. A used RTX2080 (non Ti) is roughly the same as a Vega 56?!? 🤔 I specifically checked for my Asus Strix Vega 56 and trimwise comparable Asus Strix 1080 Ti and 2080s. But the situation is comparable for different models.

Can you guys tell me what it is that the Vega can do so well?!? I guess mining should not be a factor here in Germany were power is 30€ct (35USct) per kWh. Do miners buy cards internationally, inspite of the shipping costs?

Thanks for anyone who can shed a light on this!

the gpu market doesn't make any sense right now. don't think too hard about it.

I could probably sell my RX580 for 400 dollars right now...

Theres no reason to place any logic on gpu prices during a gpu/silicon shortage.

Im sure I can fin a gt710 that somebody priced at 1000$ for no reason as well

Those are prices people actually PAID, not some stupid high priced stickers. What are the buyers thinking? I can imaginge one buyer who is not thinking, but this goes on for dozens of Vegas sold in the past week.

Yeah and I can find sold listing were people paid hundreds for empty gpu boxes. This is rather common/old news at this point.

The "market" usually always makes sense. Demand goes up, supply goes down, prices go up. I get that, not that I like it, but what else should happen, we are not is the Soviet Union? You want to allocate GPUs by waitlist and party membership?
One buyer beeing stupid, I get that.
Many buyers paying more for Vegas than 1080 Ti, ther has to be a reason.

If people are actually that stupid, maybe I should sell some of my boxes. I get a few stupid people. But here is a trend. Taken as a whole the market always makes sense, there has to be a reason here. It only looks senseless if you lack some information, that someone else has.
