Got a weird one for y'all today.

The Issue:
My PC will freeze occasionally during high-loads. The primary monitor will completely freeze with whatever was displayed last. My secondary monitor will freeze as well, but also suffer severe artifacting as shown below. Under normal loads, playing most games, it will not crash for a while. Sometimes it can take up to 4+ hours for the issue to surface, but only when under considerable load, i.e. not idle or browsing. When I boot up DOOM: Eternal and start loading into a game, sometimes the issue will occur, other times I can play for up to 5 minutes without it crashing. It seems almost random, but is tied to load somehow. Minecraft RTX does not cause the PC to crash, and neither does Furmark @4k. I checked the clock of the card multiple times as it crashed, but very few were >1900, and most hovered around 1500-1700. Task Manager shows GPU utilization to be around 9-13% on Video Encode.

Attempted Fixes:
- RAM (Reseated, switched, and changed slots multiple times)
- Switching between multiple GPU driver versions including the one recommended by the manufacturer.
- Changing max power limit and core clock. Have turned it down to 80% power and -200 clock off of 1905.
- Resetting BIOS
- Clean booted
- Upgraded PSU, issue occurs on both (upgraded because I needed one anyways)

The PC:
- i9-9900k
- Aorus RTX 3080 Xtreme Rev 2.0
- Z390 Aorus Wifi Motherboard
- 32gb (2x16) DDR4 Trident G.SKILL @3200
- 1000w EVGA 80+ Gold PSU
- 1tb SATA SSD
- 2tb HDD

My Conclusion:
Seems to me like a GPU issue. What's weird is that it doesn't happen at all with light loads. One would think that an issue with the GPU would present itself in more than just heavier loads. Normal operations with the GPU are fine. Windows error reporting shows nothing.

How did you switch between the driver versions?? Did you try using DDU yet?

Just using Nvidia's custom installer, allows you to clean install a new driver. I'll check out DDU though, thanks for the recommendation!

Yeah, go ahead and give DDU a try. Nvidia's tools may leave hidden files behind that could be interfering with the newer drivers.

Semi-good news! I no longer get artifacting on my second monitor, but the freezing issue persists.
