laptop ram upgrade

Open up your laptop, check what it has and whether there are empty RAM slots, plan the upgrade (capacity and size)

SuperPi (v1.5 from Techpowerup, PI value output) 16K: 0.100s 1M: 8.255s 32M: 7m 45.93s

Two more questions 

I’m assuming all ram sticks must be same type right 

second question just use a screwdriver?

The manual or spec list will also give you an idea, checking against HWInfo64 or Task Manager.

1. DDR[number] and SODIMM (short ones, DIMM will be desktop ones which are longer)

It would be great if they do, sadly very few brands care. Also even software cant tell you whether there are unpopulated slots if said laptop has multiple slots per channel.

I have Alienware do you have any idea if they do. I have m15 R3

Dell usually don't (as in they tell you the DDR version and frequency but dont even cover whether it's soldered and irreplaceable or not). Good thing is that teardown videos are plentiful with Alienware laptops (model year is important too), you will at least know where the slots are.

If it's soldered, yes. That's why it's pretty inevitable to take it apart and why you shouldnt if it voids your warranty.

Warranty is already over but I am able to take the back off and if it’s soldered just put it back on with no harm
