During an ATTO Disk Benchmark test what temperature does it reach? You can monitor the temperature with HWiNFO64, "Drive Temperature" indicates the NANDs temperature and "Drive Temperature 2" indicates the controller temperature. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that you need to buy a heatsink, for example this icepc is very good. As alternative, be quiet! MC1 Pro.

Left the benchmark at default and yh the temp 2 was at 100c so i cancelled the test half way cuz i was scared but temp 1 reads 73

There is a heatsink on your mobo. Have you applied the thermal pad / removed the protective cover for the heatsink?

There is no heatsink for my mobo and i left all the stickers and such alone

These temperatures are too high and dangerous, both for NANDs and for controller. You have to add a heatsink, I particulary suggest the icepc.

ok ill try order one soon as possible also the nvme is under the gpu fan so it might be higher than normal

Why a RMA? These temperatures are normal for the 970 EVO Plus, look at the TechPowerUp’s review of the 970 EVO (they have the same controller)

IMO the temperature is too high.

I do know 970 EVO is hot, from my experience yet reached max 65C in my build.

Matter of opinion, I opted for a very much cooler M.2 NVMe SSD.

Yeah, but replacing it with the same model doesn’t solve the "problem".

It might. At worst the 970 EVO would arrive in closed box and be resaleable.

But it might function @85C for a long time, who knows.

I'm wondering how if all 970 EVO (not 970 EVO Plus) samples use the same hardware...

Maybe, but it’s not advisable, obviously. The TT starts from 70-75 degrees up, 85 is very high (obviously I'm talking about the controller's temperature).

no, but there should be a heatsink or smth

it is normal for them to get hot under loads, and even hotter if they don't have any sort of proper cooling
