40" to 43" 4k monitor

King_PIN

I need a new monitor under $1k CAD or a couple hundred over if it's a big upgrade.

40-43" 4k.

No wide panels.

NO SAMSUNG

I don't care about sound, or stand as my desk mount arm can hold up to 45 lbs.

3840 x 2160

I currently have a 40" 4K Philips but it's quickly on it's way out as it has issues waking from sleep and is starting to flicker.

I have been looking at:

LG 43UD79-B

AORUS FV43U

HP Business Z43 42.5" 4K UHD LED LCD Monitor 1AA85A8#ABA

I really want something that is very good for day to day tasks so text needs to be clear.

I am not a heavy gamer but when I do play it's FPS.

Sounds crazy to say, but you probably want to stay at 40” or under for 4K, if you care about text clarity. The pixel density starts to drop below 100 ppi, which is pretty much your floor for not being able to see every pixel at a typical monitor viewing distance. Bigger TVs and such get away with it because the viewing distance is much greater, usually. It's also less of a concern for gaming or just generic media consumption, since your eyes tend to gloss over issues like low pixel density with that type of content. Where you feel it is in productivity and textual content.

I agree.  40" is the perfect size for me and something I am used to.

Only reason I mention 43" is because 40" doesn't give a lot of options.

I really don't want to go smaller.

The LG looks to be out of stock, so you're really stuck between the other 2, I'd guess.  The 21:9 Dell is too expensive and probably too wide for what you want--and will be shorter to boot.

40" should be fine for text (i'm on one right now), but yeah, 4k is like "minimum standard" at this size, imho.  (Mine is AOC's sister to the Phillips 40" curved).

I really want to like Sceptre, but they are stuck at 1440p, which is unacceptable on 40".  But if you want to spend like HALF, it does exist.

LG is coming out with a 42" OLED in Jan 2022.  It was supposed to come out this summer but it was delayed.  I wonder if my monitor will last that long.  Otherwise, although it's way over my budget I started looking at the Acer Predator CG7.
