Best Software/Browser Extension(s) For Downloading Tracks Off Of Soundcloud? (UPDATED 10/01/21)

How is it besides the point?  If the source is MP3 and the downloader is ripping that source, that's the best you can get period.

Now if you said listening in the browser sounded better than the rip, I'd have suspected the ripper is re-compressing and then you'd have a point.  But I'm 99.9% certain its just saving the same MP3 the browser gets, so there is no better version.

 

This is why I will always look on BandCamp for releases, you get to choose how lossy (or not) the format is.

 

But as already pointed out, if you have permission then the artist should be sending it to you directly anyway.

There are a lot of youtube-dl walkthroughs if you Google them. It's a really powerful little program, but most of the basics are pretty simple.

 

Sidenote: to actually download YT videos, you'll need to install ff-mpeg (manually, unfortunately) and update your PATH config (again, there are instructions on the Google for that step... I don't think it will be necessary for just SoundCloud though).

@AbydosOne OK, I managed to figure some things out on my own, but I noticed that 1 of my tracks downloaded from YT was actually compressed more than once via the way I was downloading it. If i wanted to download the tracks in the AAC format/file type/codec, what would the command be changed to for this? Would appreciate it if you (Or anyone else.) can help me out with this.

If it isn't an available format, then you can't download it.

Use the -F command with youtube-dl to see all the available formats.

So to check the formats available, do I just enter the links for the track I want followed by -f or something? Sorry if I'm not that great at command-based programs & such...
