optic drives not reading discs.

DouglasAdriano

Hey guys,

i got a couple of optic drives that refuse to work at all; windows detects them, they show up in device manager and windows explorer, but won't read any discs at all.

i tried a couple of fixes that i found online while trying to make the drives work;

 editing registry, multiple firmwares for the drives, different drivers, tried the drives over USB, SATA, multiple sata ports, multiple sata cables, two different systems, in both windows and ubuntu.

i have no idea what to try next, the drives just won't work. any clues?

drives were TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-223C and LG GH24NSBO

im running a Biostar b350-gt3 with a ryzen5 1600 system.

Compact Disc drives for PC were literally the least reliable component to ever exist... I've had 3.5" floppy drives last longer.

Then the drives are probably faulty at a hardware level - remember, optical drives are precise mechanical devices with many points of failure.

Any working ones?

i don't think both drives are faulty and develop the same exact problem, one of the drives, the newer TSST one, did read discs on ubuntu, i believe it to be a windows problem.
