Hi all, hoping someone could help.

My pc has developed a new wierd issue, yesterday Ethernet worked fine. Today it installed rpsc3 update (I think), then it wouldn't connect to the internet at all. I reset DNS, and everything incoumd find to reset, reinstalled drivers, no luck. WiFi works, different cables work, so you would assume it's the cable, but no that cable works with both my laptop's?

I'd prefer to keep the cable as it goes through my roof and around the house to the router, opposite end of building! I tried running the Intel test, said there was cable issues 255m down line, the cable is only 33m long. And it gave me this error, which I'm unsure if it's related?

Only things I'm yet to try is disabling bullguard antivirus and firewall, resetting pc and Linux method!

Any ideas/tips would be much appreciated,

Many thanks

Can you confirm whether the internet connection works via any other method? Possible the problem is the connection itself.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Hi,

So WiFi works. Other cables work, this cable works on all other devices just not this one. When it initially turns on/gets plugged in, it does work for about 5 secs before not getting internet access, it will buffer approx 5 secs on twitch streams when I plug cable in

You said it works, but is it connecting to machines outside the LAN or not?  I guess the term “works” is what is fuzzy here.  You can have wifi that works fine but doesn’t connect to the internet.

Sorry, here:

WiFi works, connects to internet, watch YouTube fine.

Other Ethernet cables work, connects to internet, watch YouTube fine.

This cable will connect and work for a few seconds, then it will say connected but no internet access. On other devices this cable will connect and work watching videos. I cannot run a new cable because of where it is so hoping to find the problem with this one

So internet connection is functioning.  Therefore not an issue. Sounds like cable tests as known good, correct?

this strikes me as an in connector issue or an issue with the hardware it is connecting to rather than the cable.  Ethernet pins can be delicate.  is perhaps an input port or a plug mangled at all?  If it’s a plug they can be replaced with an Ethernet crimping tool if it’s a port problem things get more problematic.

I can speak to the concept of pulling an new cable possibly if needed. Could you use the old cable as a pull string by (very firmly) connecting new cable to the end of the old cable and pulling it through (couple reasons why this might not work) this is a standard electrician’s trick. Commonly several inches of wire (usually less than a foot but not always) will need to be sacrificed to get enough material to do the connection properly. (Again, needs to be very firm. Probably firmer than you think it needs to be a connection pulling apart in the middle of things is disaster) if pulling a new type of cable (or arguably even if not) care would need to be taken with dimensions, tension applied, effective run length, diameter of bend, etc..  sheath abrasion could possibly be an issue.  Pulling around even a mild angle can make things require radically more force and multiple angles can make it impossible.  There is a non conductive non corrosive lubricant that is sometimes used for pull runs.  It looks like clear goop generally.  There are many brands.
