After My Aorus i9 9900kf based build (see https://linustechtips.com/topic/1275597-party-like-its-2019-aorus-intel-nvidia-build ) I am wanting to build another workstation level machine. I am thinking of going for this spec but its a lotta dough. Not sure if I should reduce the spec a bit.

Id get the non f version if you can. Seems to be cheaper on PCPPhttps://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/mDcG3C/intel-core-i9-11900k-35-ghz-8-core-processor-bx8070811900k, and the igpu is nice for troubleshooting, and supports video codecs that the nvidia gpus don't support now.

Id get one of these asa. gen 3 drive instead, as this bord cna only havae 1 gen 4 m.2 and keep the gpu at x16, and Id keep the gpu at x16 instead of dropping it to x8 for the gen 4 ssd.

What workstation programs are you running? Unless you need the igpu on the 11900k for some video decoding, Id go hedt/5950x for most workstation tasks as its faster.

@Electronics Wizardy

Cheers for the input fella. I had this thought on the K versions that if they decide to pre-bin them and do a KS like they did with the 9th gen, the chances of winning the silicon lottery with the F version was higher. Silly idea?

Good call on the gen 4/3 - Originally I wanted another all Aorus build but seems its easier to get an RTX3090 vision over the Aorus then I would have gone for an Aorus Z590 master board instead. But I would still have been restricted to 20 pcie lanes wouldn't I? mmm yeah good catch.

I am building to run sysadmin jobs, cloud architecture. I only build crazy systems for the lols - benchmarks and so on - but having a triple screen setup however mad will be good for work - even though I will have to pay for this one personally! I am a bit of a sucker for Intel - haven't run AMD since the K6 II / K6 III days.

That is paying too much on slow memory.

@Dr0idGh0sTFor sure dude - but I like the idea of air cooling so what could I get that's faster but still low latency and has no massive heat spreader? On my Corsair 275R its very tight - perhaps no such issue with the 5000D?

@Dr0idGh0sTCheers that's a great help. I will massage the spec if I get the guts to hit "buy" in the coming days.

I've seen plenty of builds that use a NH-D15 with G.Skill Ripjaws V RAM, so I went for that instead.

Thanks @GeorgeMKane useful advice - I should have used a bigger case in my last builds as both have a NH-D15 and both have the fans touching the side of the case!

The binning seems to be the same, the f versions shouldn't be higher bined. Sillion lottery stats show basically the same overclocking on the k and kf skus for 10th gen. The igpu can be nice, and the non f version seems to be cheaper too.

Yea you got 20 gen 4 lanes here. Nothing you listed needs much io, so the gen 3 drives will be more than plenty.

Id probably go amd. Try something new, and get a much faster chip at it too.
