Has anyone tried adding 2nd PSU just for graphics card instead of buying new one ? What challenges have you faced ? and how to safely do it ? I built my PC a year back and just for graphics card I don't want to sell it and buy new PSU , rather add one more as my Case is big enough.

You can, basically all you really need is one of these adaptors which turns on both PSUs when the power button is pressed.

Where to mount it is probably the biggest issue, as well as it generally being less efficient from a power draw standpoint.

99% of the time that a poster does that is because theyre far too cheap to get a PSU with proper wattage, or they run an optiplex. If youre not deadbeat broke, stick with using 1 PSU.

Yes. I did this back in the day to run a Radeon HD 3870 in a Dell OptiPlex desktop. It worked fine, but it wasn't elegant at all. Just get a proper power supply that supports all of your components.

What is your current PSU?

Sound like it might be the best to just upgrade the PSU.

Used to be very common practice years ago when PSUs over 550W were incredibly expensive (nobody used LLC back then).

What PSU do you have now and what graphics card?

The first version had two PSU mounts. To install the second bracket you would need to remove some HDD mounting slots.

ope, yep. I forgot about that.
