I am looking to get as much performance out of my M1 Air as possible, as I recently bought an 144hz 1080p monitor (HP x24i), and Minecraft can't run anywhere higher than 130 FPS, with 100 average, on lowest settings (Render Distance: 8). I know about the thermal pad mod, but is there anything else out in terms of kernel mods or even solder bridges that increase performance even slightly? I am not using Sodium, although I am aware that it will lead to the FPS I am looking for. I have allocated more RAM to my install as well. I just want the power because I can lol. I am just having trouble finding anything that can boost performance in any significant way like my single piece of tape did to my Core 2 Quad q6600. I got a 25% boost in performance from that trick lol. For those curious, look up q6600 tape overclock or tape mod.

Well then what the hell stopping ya? Youre going to always need an optimization mods for Java MC.

If I am entirely honest, it is because I am not the admin of my computer, My parents are. It would take a TON of convincing to let me do this, but they are generally unaware of hardware, so that is my only avenue. To be clear, this is not just for Minecraft, Minecraft is just a good reference point.

You're asking about potential hardware modifications, but you don't even know if you can install a piece of software on the computer?

I am completely incapable of altering anything that has to do with the Admin. So, installing applications to the applications folder (can install them to any other folder, bit of a loophole there) and generally anything that may actually be useful for daily use is blocked. I actually don't care about that stuff realistically. I understand that this is not ideal, I am not stupid, and I am NOT 9. I understand many options will be blocked by this problem. I just want to push this thing to its limits. Why? I don't know, I am bored I guess, ultimately I do not need to play games so bad that I would potentially brick my macbook.

Just ask your parents to let you install the software. It's simple...

So simple that I couldn't have possibly thought of that. Geez, what would I do without your incredibly helpful input.

Let's say, perhaps, just maybe, I am aware of this strange phenomena called talking. And maybe, I might have thought of this before.

On a less sarcastic note, even if I cannot in any way shape or form benefit from any of the mods out there, I am curious. I am here for information about Mac modding, not how to communicate to other sentient life forms. I just want information, what I do with it afterward is up to me. I am trying to learn as much as I can about these topics because they directly affect me, and they interest me. If somehow, I could do one of these mods, great! If not, at least I learned something. Haven't you ever looked at RTX 3090 prices you could never afford and thought "If only...."? How is me looking at the potential performance gains from dicey mods any different?

Yikes. You don't have to be rude. I mentioned asking your parents because if they don't even let you install your own software, is it really wise to mess around with hardware modifications? The thermal pad mod is about the only one you could really do, and even then it's not entirely necessary.

Sorry, I just didn't appreciate being told to ask my parents like I hadn't already tried that. The way you stated your statement made it seem like you thought I was stupid "It's simple.....". Usually when I come to these forums I get useful feedback, so your statements surprised and angered me. I understand that it likely isn't wise to mess with hardware stuff, but it is the only accessible thing I can do right now. I have had various other projects to complete in the past, but now, I have either completed them all, or I am waiting on parts, or it is a dead end. Due to my age and work experience, I do not get paid a lot in the grand scheme of things, so the parts I mess with are parts that are older, A. Because Retro gaming is fun, and I like restoring/preserving old stuff, but B. because a GTX 460 is 20$, and a GTX 1060 is 200$+. I get pissed when I see those "reviewing subscriber builds" and people are begging for help because they "only have a GTX980" and the YouTuber would snatch that sob story up. Like B*tch, at the time I watched those videos, the most powerful dedicated graphics card I had was an ATI 9600 MOBILITY PRO TURBO 128mb. And not by choice either. I also had no console, the most powerful computer I had was my dad's old work MacBook Pro, which had a dual core 5th Gen i5, and 16GB of RAM + INTEL HD 620 Graphics. I am just looking for a project which is complex enough to occupy a decent chunk of my time, and will yield day to day results that I will actually experience. My gaming pc has a q6600, 8GB of DDR2 800mhz (It was an old DELL server/workstation) and a GTX 460 (which OC'ed is faster than your 550ti, even if that is OC'ed, although your 680 would crush it).
