Weird Internet problems..

Go to solution Solved by Lurick,

In steam do you have any of the options to limit downloads if a game is running? I remember a while back if I had EVGA PrecisionX running from Steam it considered that a game and would throttle downloads until I told it not to throttle if an application/game is running.

So a month or so ago one of my two 2TB hard drives broke (we dont know how sadly..) and my dad tried to see if he could fix it but in the end he couldnt sadly.. I dont really know how it works but my dad "merged" the 2TB drives into one disk partition. I had all my games on those drives so when that one drive died the other drive needed to be reset (I think my dad said something about corruption or smt. Dont really remember) meaning all the games I had downloaded needed to be reinstalled and stuff. But the thing is, is that the ethernet cable I have in my pc is 1Gbps, which is imo pretty good. And when I go to speedtest.net and look how fast my internet is, it is normaly around 230/280 Mbps w/ download and I think like 150/190 Mbps w/ upload as you can see in picture #1. So I normaly should get around 31 MBps w/ download and 21 MBps w/ upload. But the weird thing is, sometimes the download speed is the same but then the upload speed is like not even above the 50 and vise versa (w/ download speed its instead of under 50 its like under the 70/80)... But the most annoying and weird part is, that if I want to download anything the speed at which my games download never goes above like 1.9MBps... For example I`m downloading a game on steam and the highest I might hit is like 1.7/1.8MBps.. Same goes for anything on google chrome/microsoft edge, like I would download like a mod for blade and sorcery, or maybe the setup thingy for like the minecraft launcher and such, but it wouldnt go above 1.9MBps.. And its actualy so annoying, because games like GTA V and RDR2 takes like 1/2 DAYS to download... So if anyone can help me out on this I would be very thankfull haha. Oh and sorry if the grammar and stuff isnt really the best, english is my 2nd language so I`m not really the best in it.

Just because you have great download speeds does not meant that the other end has amazing upload speed. If 1000 people are trying to use a server with a 10Gb/s upload speed then each user would only get 10Mb\s (1.25MB\s)

I know, but it isnt only at things like steam and stuff. Its also at things like my One drive, like launcher setups, just everything tbh.. like what ever it is, if its just a site where only a couple people go on or where millions of people go on, its always under 1.9Mbps...

A company hosting a server is going to pay for an internet speed that they think fits there situation. The server with only a few users is may not have gigabit connection speeds at all. If you really want to test it then you will need to set up a file server with a test file on your WAN side. Another thing you can do is try downloading from multiple sites at once, if you can download from 10 sites at the same time and still have them all reach that speed then the bottle neck is probably at the other end.
