Do you want new or used?

Do you have any equipment already?

Id probably get a low end mirrorless/dslr. Something like a 250d, m50, a6000, d3500 or simmilar. Get it with the kit lens, there a good starting point.

New or used doesn't matter. If it's under 500 im happy.

1) For car photos/videos should I get a dslr or mirrorless.

2) And another question, Is there a camera that is only good for cars for example.

Or can I get any dslr and it will take nice car pics/videos.

1. Its really up to you. Image quality is about the same. MIrrorless cameras are normally smaller, evf is nice for seeing exposure. While DSLRs have better battery life typically. This also really depends on the models.

2. Basically any camera can do car pics well, you don't need anything special really.

Can you get your hands on cameras at a camera store? Id get a feel for the cameras if you can.

one option is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 with a 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6. should be around 450-480, that means you can get a few spare batteries, SD card, and a polarizing filter which helps cut glare on windows

I will be using the camera for taking pictures of people etc.

But I want to do car pics. And yes, I will do car driving videos. Rolling car shots.

So do you still recommend the Panasonic for car rolling shots/videos?

Yea the d5300 is an older camera, get a newer one for better video autofocus(or get sony/canon).

There is also a lot more to video than resoltuion + frame rate.

you went and tried some bodies to see how they feel? or just spec wise it seems good?

the Panasonic will look better in video

D5300 won't auto focus very well. its an old body

no just seeing on specs. not viewing any

does the 3500 have good focus? came out in 2018.

my only issue is the panasoinc, only has a max recording of 30fps (if i want to slow down footage it will be choppy). https://www.apotelyt.com/compare-camera/nikon-d3500-vs-panasonic-g7

Isn't this a repost?

Basically all interchangeable lens cameras in that price range can do this, just change the settings on the camera as needed.

Do you want good af during video or photo? DSLRs have a different af system for live view and video than stills. MIrrorless cameras use the same af system for all shots.

okay, specs can be misleading

af if is decent in stills but nothing amazing

it does full HD at 60fps, you aren't going to find 4k60 for cheap. GH4 is another option but again no 4k60

They will work about the same. Image quality is basically identical, I listed the pros and cons in the earlier thread, and there are lots of comparisons online.

Can you go try one at a camera store? Get a feel for different cameras and what you like. What store are you looking to buy from?

used from MPB. so i cant really try it, and there arent camera stores near me.

i want a camera with good focus in video mode. so i dont want to get a camera that cant focus well, like i saw a review where it would 'buffer' when focusing on recording a still object. so i dont want that happening to me, when i want to do fast moving objects too

Getting perfect autofocus is gonna be a pain, even good cameras can have issues.

Id look for something like a used canon 70d, good af during video, good build, pretty cheap used.

but looking at comparison with the d3500. its got 4 megapixels less, and no 60fps video. Both have their pros and cons. Do you know about the AF in the d3500, is it any good? or worse than the 70d

its got decent AF in video, but AF is never perfect

the 4mp doesn't matter, yeah it doesn't do 60 FPS.

Really all of the bodies are gonne be pretty simmilar for car prictures. Won't won't know the difference looking at the pictures, how you use it matters much more.

What lenses do you want to get? This will make a much bigger difference to image quality.

I'm not 100% sure. I'm still a newbie.

I don't want like 2, 3 lenses. I just want one that does the job in recording and taking some pics.

But I'm looking for good AF. But don't know which is better the 70d or d3500 for focus

Or if they are the same?

Problem is you can't have one lens that does everything well. Normally your much better off have a few lenses that are very good at a few tasks than one that is ok at everything

Is this for video or photo? The AF system is different.

Video Af is always gonna be a pain as the camera needs to know what the track. The 70d I think will be better in video autofocus, but its still not perfect, and why most movies are still doing manual focus.

What lens are you gonna get? Id probably try to get something like the canon 17-55 2.8 or the sigma 17-50 2.8

Ok so..

Auto focus is where the computer focuses on the object itself. Right?

But is manual focus where you tap the screen where you want it to be focused? (Like a phone?)

I don't really mind which type of focus I have. I just don't want the camera to struggle in video.

So does every camera have the same manual focus?  Does it work the same?
