I switched to 2nd slot and I am still getting errors? What should I do now. The best I can do with this pc is to boot into the bios as booting into BSD or Linux results in lockup or kernel panic and it's the same story with windows and it's the only pc I have.

Pretty sure it's the RAM stick in that case. Maybe you can find a cheap stick on ebay, if it's in your budget I would recommend getting 4gb since it helps a lot

Hello,

I was playing GTA San Andreas on my pc and then I got a BSOD with no error message and even after I restarted the BSOD was still persisting. So I booted into arch Linux and on there it allowed me to boot into the login screen but as soon as I logged in it froze at a black screen with a mouse pointer. I have tried booting into a arch live iso but it got stuck into "Welcome to Arch Linux" message.

How can I fix this?

Any help would be very deeply appreciated.

Have you put any effort towards testing any stability? Have you overclocked anything? Why havent you put system details in your post if you are asking for help?

Here are the specs:-

Pentium G3220

2GB DDR3 1333

Crucial BX500 SSD

Consistent CMB-H81 motherboard

Most of these parts are not very old except the processor which was bought at the end of 2013

And no I haven't overclocked anything simply because I can't as the multiplier is locked.

That BSOD is from Windows 7 or older, so the PC is probably old. Probably dieing RAM, try running Memtest overnight and see what it says

The pc is not old and I can't run memtest because the computer just refuses to boot from anything (Simply completely locks up).

Is your RAM dual channel? If so try removing 1 stick, if it doesn't help remove the other

No, the ram is singel channel. I think the cpu is faulty as it is very old

Are there bent pins in the CPU socket? CPU's don't fail often so I don't think that's the case. You can also try clearing CMOS, take the little battery out of the motherboard, remove the power cable and wait.

Ok, So I removed the CPU and the socket was totally fine but there are few pads on the cpu that have turned pink instead of regular gold colour. Could that be causing the issue as wiping it with water, alcohol, acetone didnot remove the pink color

Ok, So I managed to go into windows memory diagnostics and it immediately started giving errors. Could that mean that my ram is faulty?

Doesn't have to mean there's a RAM issue, but that's the biggest chance. It can also be a motherboard issue. Can you try moving the RAM stick to the different slot?

Ok,  I will buy new ram when I have enough money. Thanks for the help

Also if it's still not working with new RAM you can sell it again and try a different motherboard

Ok, So I managed to boot into Debian by underclocking the ram to 1066 from 1333 and I was able to copy memtest 86+ to a usb and thankfully it was stable enough to do it and then I ran memtest and it's showing me lots of errors so my ram is definitely faulty. Very thanks again for your help! I have purchased 2x 2gb sticks so it runs in dual channel.
