So the title basically says everything there is to say. In Linux (PopOS! to be exact) playing Minecraft I often get over 800 fps, but in every other Linux distro and even windows, which is what I am currently using, my fps are always between 270-285, never above 285 even in situations where I got 1500 fps in PopOS!.

I tried Minecraft with and without mods, with optifine and no other mods and even with mods that I normally use but without optifine.

I have looked everywhere. VSync is off, any fps-limiter is also off, I disabled battery boost, etc. But nothing seems to work. The fact that this problem occurs in different operating systems makes me think that it's a thing with the GPU, but then there is PopOS! (where I don't have any problem), so I really have no idea what could be happening.

And yes, I am using the Nvidia GPU and not the integrated one.

The laptop that I have is an HP Envy 14, and it has a 1650 TI max-q and an i7-1165 G7.

Are you sure you don't have the FPS limiter on in NVIDIA Control Panel? (this happened to me before)

This is not a problem.

270 fps is already above what all but a few extremely expensive monitors can display. 1500fps is far beyond what the human eye and mind can probably even perceive. I wouldn't even trust that the fps counter in PopOS is accurate.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Based on the numbers he's posting, i'm convinced this is what's going on.

TBH he should limit the FPS to his monitors refresh rate and leave it alone. Doesn't sound like there is anything wrong. Why would you want 800fps in flippin Minecraft?

(I have no idea ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

Spoiler

Also before someone comes in and wants to start an argument about how frame fps the human eye can see: the answer is we don't know because the human eye and mind don't see in "frames," fps is just a very advanced development of the "technology" used in a flip book to create the visual illusion of motion. The US Air Force did experiments where fighter pilots were seated in a room where an image of an aircraft similar to what they might see at a distance from the cockpit was flashed on the wall for 1/220th of a second and they were able to notice it and even identify the type of aircraft it was. So we can safely conclude anybody saying the human eye can't see more than 30fps or 60fps like console fanboys used to claim is full of shit, the limits of what the human visual system can do are well beyond that. However, that study was, again, with trained fighter pilots who probably all have exceptional vision to begin with and probably is not broadly applicable to your average gamer. For games you almost certainly start to get diminishing returns with frame rates over 100 and 1500 is just ludicrous, several times more than what current hardware can actually display and what there is any evidence to suggest humans are able to perceive.

It's not that I *want* 800 fps, it's that I think im getting a lower performance that I'm supposed to. I also know thet you should limit your fps at your monitor refresh rate because anything above that is not useful. But what is strange is that the FPS are ALWAYS at 270-280, it botheres me to not know what is happening.
