Large System Tray Icons

Does anyone know why this happens?

 

I want the icons to be more compact like normal.

Are you talking about showing fewer icons? You can do that here.

Right click the taskbar, click Taskbar settings, under Notification area click “Select which icons appear on the taskbar”. Do you have the “Always show all icons in the notifications area” checked?

I want the icons to be closer together.

I don’t know of a way to customize that. Are the screen sizes of the laptops the same? If one is smaller it might group them closer together. 
 

Also, when replying to someone don’t forget to quote them by using the quote button under their post, or tagging them so they can get a notification. Otherwise people won’t see that you replied.

Oh, I see what you're saying. They do look further apart but I have no clue how you would adjust that.

my laptop is 15.6 in 1366x768

school laptop is 13.3 in same res

but my friend is on 1080p 24 in monitor and has the icons close together

Is your laptop a touch-screen? Perhaps that forces them further apart to make it easier to hit the right one.

nah it doesnt have a touch screen. There must be a setting in windows that changes that right?

In Device Manager under Human Interface Devices, is there anything touch-screen related listed?

 

If you open the Action Center do you have something like Tablet Mode that may have been turned on?

My guess would be that Windows automatically scales them based on the screen size and resolution. I haven’t seems a setting to change it, but if there is a way hopefully someone else can chime in and let you know.
