1. Budget & Location

My budget is around £800-900 and I'm from the UK.

2. Aim
This is going to be my main PC which I will be using for gaming (League of Legends, Titanfall, Starcraft 2) and also for doing work on which involves using Microsoft Word and opening lots of browser tabs. I am also considering overclocking to see what the PC will be capable of, and to improve my knowledge.

3. Monitors
Currently I have a crappy LG (1920x1600) VGA monitor which I will be using, hopefully in the future I will switch to a HDMI monitor and I'm looking at getting two monitors, one for references and one for using Office.

4. Peripherals
I don't really need any peripherals atm, since my budget is limited but I am interested in getting a mechanical keyboard to increase my WPM (currently at 72wpm) and also to get a decent PSI mouse, so any recommendations would be nice.

5. Why are you upgrading?
I have a really crap notebook and an even worse Alienware laptop which i despise =_=. I think i brought into the hype, because it really isn't worth what I paid for it.

I need a new desktop which is hopefully going to have a low temperature and reduce noise.

Hey guys,

I'm quite new to the forum and I've been researching about building a computer for the first time. I have about £800 (£900 max) to spend. And I have browsed around different forums and rig.

So far I am considering these parts:

Total: £914.53
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Although I am kinda skeptical if I need a CPU cooler or if the stock one will be sufficient and furthermore if the case is a good idea, as I'm considering getting a coolmaster scout 2 case instead.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Looks pretty balanced, PSU is pretty overkill for single card. Also you could squeeze a 780 into that budget if you are looking to get every frame possible for your money.

Great job,the pus is overkill though, but that's it

wow, i did not know that "pus" could be overkill xD.

Looks like a solid build though

Looks like a very nice well balanced build. The only thing I would change is the PSU to a 450-550 to save a bit of money.

I would not skip the CPU cooler, even if you do not overclock the Hyper 212 Evo will be much quieter and make for a more enjoyable experience.

Also the Define R4 is an extremely nice case, I wouldn't change it unless you really like something else better.

Here is another option using the AMD team. You get a larger SSD and a nicer (albeit smaller) PSU, for a bit less money.

CPU:  AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor  (£131.99 @ Aria PC)

CPU Cooler:  Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  (£25.45 @ Scan.co.uk)

Motherboard:  MSI 990FXA-GD65 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  (£80.00 @ Ebuyer)

Memory:  Kingston Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  (£54.82 @ CCL Computers)

Storage:  Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  (£99.95 @ Amazon UK)

Storage:  Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  (£53.99 @ Aria PC)

Video Card:  EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card  (£269.72 @ Scan.co.uk)

Thanks for the help! I was wondering why i didn't get notifications and no one was replying to this thread :S. I'm really  new to posting in this forum xD

The AMD CPU seems like quite a viable option, it gives me some money to spend on a nicer SSD :P

Then again i'm still favouring intel to AMD i dunno :S

I also favor Intel, but for builds under $1300 AMD CPU's tend to open up a bit more of the budget for other components. Its really your call. :)

I'm curious what the advantage of the AMD is compared to intel, as it seems like the AMD you recommended gives more in terms of 'actual' general usage in maybe using photoshop or websurfing however it lacks when gaming compared to i5 4670k

The architectures between the Intel and AMD CPU's are very different, therefor each can excel in certain areas and fall behind in others. I have friends who use an FX-8350 for engineering analysis calculations because they have found that the AMD architecture performs better at that price than the 4670K does. Alternatively the 4670k is often seen as a superior gaming CPU. Bare in mind though that the AMD CPU's can be used in gaming very successfully.

Usually AMD offers a compelling price per performance value. Often better than the Intel side, however once you climb into better and better CPU's, AMD has less and less offering to even compete. Personally I think once you start looking at 4770k's or 4930k's there is really no AMD equivalent to use as a comparison.

In reality, for most users, either camp will satisfy their needs just fine.

I hope this helped.

Sorry about bombarding you guys with questions, but I have one final question and then I'm off to buy my parts.

What is the difference between a EVGA geforce GTX 770 and the ASUS one?

As currently the ASUS is about £20 cheaper :S

Its each companies special cooler. There will be minor differences between them in sound and performance but they will be pretty small. Get whichever one you think looks better. You won't be disappointed with either card.
