Well lets stay by saying i bought a dell optiplex 9020 on ebay for 60$ shipped, had 4 gb or ram.... Changed to 16gb at this time. When installing my gtx 1070 card I noticed a capacitor no longer attached and bent pins coming out of the board, with how cheap i got the entire machine and gpu is worth it for me to buy just another dell replacement mother board(25-89usd)ebay-amazon or should i look into an aftermarket board that supports the 1150 chip socket and ddr3 1600 ram i already have.

I7 4770 1150 socket

16gb ram

GTX 1070

500GB harddrive

500GB Sata gen3 2.5SSD

EVGA 850Bq Semi Modular... Using 24pin to 8pin adapter for motherboard(it works, but could be better)

Modified case to run 2 140mm fans to help with air flow.

It looks like it should accept anything mATX. those boards are pretty easy to come by for cheap, so it's probably a good idea to look at one. The problem is the power supply looks to be proprietary so you'd need to upgrade it at the same time.

Yeah I knew the dell power supply was going to be pretty limited so i bought a EVGA 850Bq Bronze, Now if thats also going to be limited ill need to change my entire approach lol. Is there a particular brand of motherboard mATX/ATX related that you would recommend?

Most aftermarket boards are pretty good. ASUS/ASRock/MSI/Gigabyte are all pretty good.

Woah! 850W for a 1150 chip is quite overkill, even if you add a 3000 series GPU! (which you aren't 😛 )

Given what you paid for the box, and the fact it's pretty outdated, why not get yourself a cheap Aliexpress case*, a budget AMD system (B450 mainboard, Ryzen 3600 or 3700, 2x 8GB DDR4 RAM) and you'll have more compute power for your gaming experience. Sets you back about US$300 or so.

*the Jonsbo C2 case is a pretty inexpensive SFF case and quite popular, there are others too. Expect to do some DIY-ing to improve the case safety, like de-burrowing the edges and other sharp metal pieces.

So oddly enough the GPU and PSU are hand me downs from my brothers father in law. He just went through upgrading his PC so ask if I needed and parts and I gave him pennies compared to the market value of these items. The PSU was still brand new in box so I figured why not. I knew the 1150 chip would need to be upgraded down the road, but given I made a mistake and broke the current motherboard maybe upgrades for CPU and board are sooner than I thought lol
