Is there any reason you'd by an internal drive (a NAS drive of all things too) and a USB adapter instead of just buying a regular external hard drive?

It probably will work as an external drive, although rather than getting a USB adapter, you could always get an enclosure. That way, the portable drive would have more than one use (connect to PC, etc)
