Hey guys!

just need a little insight.. so I upgraded my cpu to an Intel i7 9700kf and during a cpu stress test it’s power limit throttling and not sure why? Motherboard is msi mag mortar b365m

temps are fine so is everything else just wondering if maybe my board can’t push enough power to the cpu? Pc part picker said my board is compatible with it so not sure why

thank you!

That's normal if you haven't raised the power limit setting in the motherboard. The cpu has power limits set by default to not exceed the advertised tdp and the cpu will boost as much as limits allow.

That board should be able to deliver enough power for that CPU. Have you gone into BIOS to see if there is a way to disable the power limits?

I have tried and there aren’t any options to disable it or change cpu voltage 😕

The settings are under OC > CPU Features.

This info can be found in the motherboard manual.

I’ve looked and it doesn’t give me an option to change it, only option it gives me is to change the amperage

Are you using the bios in Advanced Mode?

Can you show what settings you see?

What now?

There are power limits that can be raised which allows more power draw and raise temps. Feel free to do so if you have adequate cooling.

Based on what you see what should I change?

It depends on your cooling and temps. If there's not much headroom left or you want to keep noise low, you could leave the settings alone.

Deepcool gammaxx 400

Try raising limits to 140w. That seems to be plenty for getting most of the performance possible without oc'ing. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i7-9700k/18.html

Can you tell me which settings I’m changing in bios with the picture I provided? I haven’t done much bios tinkering thank you

It's Long Duration and Short Duration Power Limits and then set Long Duration Maintained to the maximum allowed value
