Mini itx amd build guidance

Budget (including currency): 2100 aud

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: It's a gift, I'm replacing my family's 10yr old all in one HP system. It should be used as a work/gameing station. Going to be used for basic school related stuff, graphic design, maybe some video editing.

I also want to have it ready to be upgraded for aaa gaming titles (In the event gpu prices/availability ever decide to return from the moon).

Other details: I have two old GPUs - Galax gtx 1060oc 6gb, gigabyte 1660oc 6gb. "Thinking of just sitting on one of these for the time being.

I have the amd 5 5600 as a place holder, however am open to 5900x if it's warranted.

I also want to cram this build into the smallest form factor I can, therefore, powersupply/case/cooling are n/a for now.

First things first, you'll need an ITX motherboard. I suggest B550 and not X570. There are more or less 5 of those which makes making your decision much easier. Throw it all in a Cooler Master NR200 and you're good to go.

I have the Asus board in my ITX machine and love it.

Oh shivers, mb I meant to put in the GIGABYTE GA-X570 I AORUS PRO WIFI MOTHERBOARD.

Could you please explain why you'd prefer the new chip sets. When I looked into it the 550 has advantages in terms of future cpu comparability. However 570 seems to etch forward due to the pcie4 channels. From what I can tell they're also very similar prices.

Thank you for the case suggestion.

The only, I repeat only benefit X570 gives you over B550 specifically on an ITX platform is a second PCIe Gen 4 M.2 slot. Its generally considered to make absolutely no sense to buy an ITX X570 motherboard but you absolutely can if you want to.

Note that both of the M.2 drives you listed are PCIe Gen 3 which is perfectly fine and nearly everything you're likely to do would not see any improvement going with Gen 4 drives.

The reviews for that motherboard are definitely not promising. I would recommend this revised list.

Changed the 2nd drive to a 2.5" SSD, so it'll be easier to install and to replace. With mini-ITX motherboards, like this MSI one, the 2nd m.2 slot is usually at the back of the motherboard. Since it's a family PC, I didn't want it to be confusing for them, to keep it like that.
