NVidia highlights stopped working??

I was using the highlights feature to save gameplay but a few days ago the recordings started looking like this. (grey with no thumbnail) and unable to play. when I open the actual file location the saved files will not play and send a codec error even though they are the exact same file type as my older recordings that still play without issue.

 

ive updated the game ready driver and tried a reinstall of the GeForce experience.
