I'm older than most of you guys and I just really started messing with a computer. I am switching to gaming on PC.

I'm running a laptop currently with

a 9th Gen i 5

1650 graphics card

8 GB ram

I play warzone too much and will be moving to battlefield soon.

warzone just doesn't work on this thing so I am on the PlayStation.

I was thinking of doubling the ram in hopes of decreasing the load elsewhere.

I am waiting on the new cards 3080 to reach reasonable pricing and availability and i will build a nice set up.  I have bought my peripherals already and my monitor will handle almost anything I throw at it in the near future ( ASUS xG 32 VC)

would this get me by better than the ps4 for a while? Is it advisable to upgrade the ram?

try increasing yout swap file first.  We had to do that for my nephew when he was on 8GB.

Go to the Start Menu and click on Settings.

Type performance.

Choose Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.

In the new window, go to the Advanced tab and under the Virtual memory section, click on Change.

then follow the arrows in this picture from top to bottom:

You may find MW behaves a little more cooperatively this way and it's a quick free fix to try first

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

Warzone is one of those games that uses past 8gb of ram so upgrading your ram would be a great idea.

HOWEVER another issue with warzone is that it needs 8 threads to run well and your i5 only has 6. This means that after the ram upgrade you'll still have stutters and micro freezes.

One thing about computers is you really need to chose wisely which games to run… playing a game where the computer is hopelessly underpowered is just no fun and "upgrading" a laptop to meaningful results nearly impossible.

There is one thing that almost always works, and that is lowering resolution - by a *lot*.

I played some very demanding games on my weak laptop this way, it was fun and I got used to lower res quickly…

But, for some reason thats not a viable option for a lot of people, the high numbers thirst is real apparently.

I'm letting my son build my new set up. I am just to cheap to pay 3x over MSRP for the card.

Hopefully battlefield is better on the system.

The one thing i really just learned is the 6 thread vs 8 thread thing and I thank you for that.  I build and develop million dollar servers ( I was  the acquisition annalist) but I know nothing about them. I was offered a throw away card (system) but would have had to spend 5x as much to build the system to utilize the GPU as building a new desktop with a 3080.

i have been building my set up on PC part picker.
