So I'm planning a build, and I'm trying to decide on RAM. Most people that have higher budgets get Corsair Dominator RAM. I don't have a problem with this, but I have to wonder why they ignore G.Skill Trident X.

Here is a Newegg(.ca) comparison

It seems evident to me that the G.Skill is superior thanks to that low CAS Latency.

Is there any reason other than aesthetics to sell me on the Corsair RAM?

Aesthetics, that's it. What most people were doing for the longest time was buying Samsung Green RAM and overclocking it themselves beyond the specs of both kits. However they aren't produced anymore. Maybe the Corsair name has to do why they're favored.

Quality.

They're pretty much the same in terms of quality. RAM is RAM and made to a universal spec, they most likely buy from the same OEM to boot.

Even if they came from the same OEM you need to realize that the binning process will be much thorough with premium memory such as Corsair Platinum when compared to non premium product.

And those Trident's binned to a even higher spec aren't? They are both premium products that have to have their RAM binned to those speeds. Otherwise they get RMA'd and the company losses money. If it's rated for those speeds, it will more then likely do them.

G.Skill isn't considered to be a premium product?

In the same way Corsair products are, both offer high speed RAM that has been binned and rated for those speeds.
