Ghost SSID

WastelandStag

So, really strange one here.

Just switched providers from Sky to an "air fibre" provider.

Set up my new router with seperate 2.4/5ghz ssid's as standard with a VERY different name to my old router.

The 2.4ghz ssid of my old, unplugged router has disappeared but the 5ghz one is still there on all my devices. I've obviously disconnected and "forgot it" but it won't go away? I tried signing in again and it just thinks about it.

Any suggestions. I don't know why but its really grating on me.

So, 2.4GHz is the only hidden network? Make sure hidden network is unchecked.

As Someone with the username “</TheCoder2019_”, my coding skills are atrocious.

Sorry, I'm not being clear. These two networks, let's call them sky2.4 and sky5, are from my old router, with my old isp. They shouldn't exist anymore. The router is unplugged and disconnected, but the 5ghz one still says it exists and is active.

This sounds like your phone. Does it show up on other devices?

So your devices fail to connect to it?

Is it possible that you have a neighbour who happens to also use Sky broadcasting WiFi on a similar SSID to the one you had before? Or do you have a wireless repeater/extender somewhere that you’ve forgotten about?

Being real, I named it Skynet5ghz, so it's a possibility, but weird that no one has a Skynet2.4ghz.

I do have an extender, but it only transmits in 2.4ghz.

you have multiple iPhone and possibly a MacBook on the network?

Are you insistent on this being an AP you have no reason to assume it is a new neighborhood setup on a local ISP? I know you are strongly suggesting it but to be clear it is good to verify

Not to spook, but check your mobile (Google or apple) accounts for devices that are logged in on your account. If you don't use them actively and have any reason to not use it in the immediate future id remove them. To be clear I mean check for activity you don't recognize on your accounts

Also print or get written down MAC's of the hardware that is the mystery ssid. Reset your network settings on the safe side, both devices and the current home network you have.
