Need to start looking into a projector for my parent's, they want one but don't want to spend money so I need to know what attributes to look for that way I can sell them on what they should have.

They're going to get a manual roll up screen.

They don't need anything uber fancy like short throw projection etc but they want a sharp picture.

Sorry if I don't know what to ask but I know virtually nothing about this short of the boutique projectors showcased on LTT.

Audio go Brrrrrr

Ansi lumens are important. That will dictate how bright the image will be. Are they able to control ambient light?

What source are they using? Dvd, computer, TV stick, BluRay, HD BluRay?

As for ambient light, during the day they have heavy curtains because my mom has a lot of medical issues that bright light can cause problems with.  As for night they tend to like a little background light but not much, there is a dimmable light over the dining room table which is behind the viewing area.

As for source it can be anything other than a computer I'd imagine.  I think they currently use cable TV but stream off an xbox 360 but I think they have a roku and I can get them any kind of streaming device required, they're all pretty affordable these days.

I've been looking for one this past month, so I've done lots of reading. What I've decided on is a benq th685. It is 3500 ansi lumens, 1080p with 120hz, 8.3ms input lag.

May be a bit more than what they need, but the YouTube reviews make it look like a pretty good all around projector.
