Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I have a 5600XT. otherwise I have a special need, I want a lan computer that multiple people can play on at the same time on the same screen, like a giant splitscreen setup. I only need 2 at the moment, but I want it upgrade able to 4. Games like halo mcc, unturned, minecraft, and maybe more. I was thinking using 2 xeon-2678 v3 with my 5600xt  and  get a couple 1060 or rx 570.

These are horribly overpriced now, they used to be around 78$ but now they are like 120 or 130 making them not very good value, get an e5 2683 v4 es 16 core or a 2695/6 v3 14 core instead, but tbh these xeons arent that good for gaming

Id suggest going for a 10900f instead

any screen you wanna do this with would need to have multiple input and support split screen as well which is very rare.

i would not recommend any of these old xeon CPU as they are horrible for gaming, you would be much better off getting something like an 10900k or a 5900x

Generally your problem will be getting all of this working because you will also need multiple USB controllers so each of these VM´s has its own USB connections for keyboard and mouse or maybe even a controller.

That means you will run out of PCI-E lanes on any normal consumer platform and your only choice would be building a system based on a threadripper CPU to have enough PCI-E lanes and slots for mutliple GPUs and USB controllers

Not that bad though depends on the xeons you are talking about

Lga 775 xeons such as the e/x 54x0 series when oced to 4-4.5 not that bad but thats a very old platform so youll run into incompatibilities, for the l series you cant really oc them cause theyll run into heat problems but if you can get near 4ghz then i guess its fine but rip temps

And if you got one with multi of under 9 then rip overclocking

Lga 1156 xeons like the x34x0 series are not bad and they are just binned counterparts of the i7, still need to oc quite heavily to get good performance tho (4ghz+), and since these are also very old youll also run into incompatibilites with games

Lga 1366 xeons like the x56xx or w36x0 are really good ocers so theyll also perform pretty well at around 4ghz+, same goes for this platform as 775 and 1156

Lga 2011(-3) xeons like the e5 1650 are ocable and with a bios modded chinese scrap board that has unlocked tdp you can oc them to ~4.2+ given you have good cooling, though the 26xx are locked and theres no fsb/bclk ocing here so if you get something like a 2651v2 or any that have clocks under 3ghz then yea gaming performance is gonna be garbage, for the v3 xeons you can also mod the bios for turbo unlock so all your cores run at max turbo speed by yeeting the 6f2 microcode via mmtool if im not mistaken, so also decent gaming performance

And for all i know seems like these have most of the instruction sets needed on modern games so i dont think youll run into compatibility issues here

You really wanna avoid the lower clocked cpus for gaming, esp when they arent ocable
