Hi.  I need a mic for voice acting in my final project video game for a college course.  It doesn't need to sound wonderful, but I don't want it to sound like a horrible headset quality recording either.  It's a very simple game so there's only going to be a few spoken dialogues, but I would like it to be able to last long enough that I can use it again for another game if necessary.

So I was looking at the Blue Snowball mics, and they sound good, but I'd really prefer something that can take advantage of my Xonar STX.  I have a strong feeling that it would sound much better to have a similarly priced microphone that can attach to that rather than USB, but I don't know much about recording audio.

Thanks for any help <3

I'm not too interested in the modmic, mostly because I don't need it to be headset-like.  I'd rather not add anything to my headphones, either.  I'm more interested in a desktop-style mic, kind of like the Blue Snowball/Yeti or similar, but with a 3.5mm/6.3mm connection instead of USB.  Thanks though.

Edit: XLR is also acceptable if it can be converted to 3.5/6.3mm.

Did you mean "< $100" ?

You really should look at USB microphones. They'll be better than your (no offense) shitty soundcard. I personally use a CAD U37, but there's nothing wrong with the Blue mics that are popular.

Converting XLR to 3.5mm would require more gear than would be feasible for your budget.

If need some decent quality for a decent price, have a look at the Audio-Technica ATR2500, quite good for only 50 bucks.

Other than that the Blue Snowball is good, and when I heard a sample of the CAD mic @ShearMe mentioned I was quite impressed.
