Laptop

Go to solution Solved by KKLawrence,

So I myself bought once a 300€ Laptop - not a great Idea. It lasted a whole 8 months, I barely used it because it was barely usable. If you want a Laptop for light gaming, a little bit of video editing and music production, thats a tough nut for 300€

I would aim at a used gaming laptop for 500 to 600€

They usually have a GPU, which will gaming and video editing possible and also they have a good cpu, thats important for music production.

At that price point you can't expect beautiful slim laptops

Dear Linus Tech Tips Forum,

i am currently in the market for a new laptop, but i do not want to spend that much money, because i will not need it so often, so i went on ebay,

and found an offer for a macbook 12inch 2016 for 300 euros.

It's the perfect formfactor for me (very thin and light),

but i am concerned about it's performance.

It only has an intel core m3 from late 2015 early 2016 (skylake),

and although i only want to draw with a drawingtablet, write texts, make some music with fl studio edit some 24fps 1080p videos and maybe play some half life cs 1.6 or minecraft,

i suspect the performance of the chip to be insufficient,

and i am not familiar with mac Os.

What do you think?

Does the chip hold up? Is it a good offer? Are there problems with mac Os i have to watch out for?

Thanks in advance

The core M3 is mega slow and in the Air its even slower. Also watch out for Apple.

If you can get a 2nd hand thinkpad from the same era, you should be good.

Sounds to me like you should go for a Windows laptop, since FL Studio will be better on Windows. For Editing on Windows you can use DaVinci Resolve, also free and great

I would look at a used Ryzen Laptop, maybe one with a Ryzen 5 4500U
Don't cheap out to much on a Laptop, since you'll be using it as your Main PC and a Laptop is basically a pre-built with included keyboard and monitor.

What is your budget?
