Budget (including currency):  Around 300 USD

Country: United States of America

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:  Major Triple A games/ Schoolwork

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I am building a completely brand new pc, (my first build actually) and don't know what CPU to pair with my Rtx 3070ti (The only part I have at home somehow). I'm looking to spend around $300. My options right now are the Ryzen 5 5600x ($280) vs the Intel i9-10850k ($320). My local microcenter sells these processors at this price, I checked on their website. Which one is better/ worth the price for performance.

For me, it's the 10850K in a heartbeat. Much more potential longevity with 4 extra cores and 8 extra threads, still decently clocked as well.

Motherboard's going to be more expensive though. Unless you don't want to overclock, in which case it's about the same.

Okay, I'm going to go with the i9-10850k. I would just like to ask about RAM. Is this CPU in particular compatible with 3600mhz ram, cl 16? The one I had in mind was the Crucial Ballistix one.

All memory above 2933MHz for this chip technically isn't supported, though most people are able to get 3600 CL16 with these chips without tweaking. I wouldn't say it's guaranteed, but it's very likely going to work.

B560, h470, z490, and z590 can oc ram

Id suggest a z490a pro cause its cheap but decent

It doesn't make much sense to get a 10 core cpu if you are just gaming. By the time you need that many cores this platform will be obsolete. A 10600KF would be a better buy at $200 if you want a 'K' cpu. Pair it with a good cooler like the Scythe Fuma 2 and a Z490-A PRO.

I know, what I was trying to saying was that anything above 2933MHz is an overclock and not guaranteed. But yeah, get one of those chipsets (H570 not H470, I'm guessing it's a typo) and overclock, you should be good
