Im looking to buy a new laptop for college and was wondering what i should buy. I have literally no clue what my major will be, but i do know it will be in the IT field. My current laptop is fairly slow until a few minutes after boot. i have two options;

1. Upgrade my current laptop (ssd, +ram) (current specs below)

2. go all out on a new laptop.

if i go with the second option should i buy a gaming grade laptop like the MSI one linus just did a review on? i want my laptop to boot quickly (ssd), run intensive programs like photoshop (+ram). or should i get a consumer grade laptop like a high end Lenovo?

~~If there is a Forum where this should go please tell me and i will move it, but i was unable to find a Forum titled laptop or anything similar (On Mobile)

Get a new simple laptop with an i5 or better, 8GB+ RAM and a 500GB+ HDD with an SSD to boot it.

Programming only requires a few gigs of RAM and a normal disk drive, SSDs make it faster tho.

Virtual Machines also require alot of RAM if you are going to be using them.

For screen size: I'd go for 15.6 Full HD if you can find one, it's the best inbetween for portability ( I'm a programmer and I've got a 15.6 laptop myself with an i7 and 6GB RAM );

This can get you a nice i5 with 8GB RAM and a GTX 840 or 850M, add like 100dollar and you could get an SSD.

alright i know i wont necessarily need an i7 but could i get ssd, 8gb ram, a good GPU and an IPS display for ~$1200??? i would want an IPS display because i like photoshop and also just because it looks better.
