How do you make files smaller.

I'm pretty sure this is the right place to post this sense I think you need software to compress files. Well anyway I wanted to use a picture as my steam profile picture and I think it's too big. I don't know how to make it work. Also it doesn't work when I try to upload it here (It's 1.8MB). On here it says "Upload Skipped (Error IO)." Please help. Also I took this picture on my iphone.

Put it into gimp then export it at a lower quality, export as .jpg, or you could try shrinking it with the resize tool.

you could upload it to your dropbox or google drive then download it to your computer and then you could set it as your profile picture

Save it in another format such as jpeg or something else.

 

Or lower the resolution of the picture

Have a look at the size of it is it 200x200 pixels or 3000x3000 (the larger the actual size the more data it is trying to store and thus compress) you can lower this using gimp or some image manipulation program, try saving it as a different format png, jpg or the like and if you are using a decent program it will give you some settings where you can change the compression, you will want to play with this to get it right so as to not lose much quality.
