Budget (including currency): any

Country: AU

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: VR

Hi guys,

First post! I'm looking to replace my rather dated 2013 imac as Apple consider it EOL now and some of my work programs will no longer function.

I don't really use the imac that much if honest as I have a macbook pro and ipad pro that meets most of my needs. Anything else I need from a networking side is done through a couple of linux boxes. I also tend to use the ps5 for gaming though admittedly not often of late.

If i'm replacing the iMac then I'll likely convert to the darkside and shove windows on it. I hate using windows but have it installed on the imac and dual boot. I understand that Apple have made this 'difficult' in newer versions of their OS. I'm stuck using catalina at present

Budget not really an issue, so I'm looking for a sleek, pref AIO, solution that I can use for high end VR. PSVR sucks! If a formal desktop is the way to go then that's what I'll do.

Not looked into anything non-apple for the best part of a decade. Budget not really an issue and would want the best VR experience possible

Any thoughts?

- network diagram adds nothing to this, but I do like UniFi!

Are you looking to build your pc or have it be prebuilt

Cause i think planning on buying a prebuilt belongs in the laptops and pre-builts subforum if im not being a moron again

If your topic does actually belong to that subforum then a moderator will move it

just gotta wait awhile

Not setting a budget is like going blind

I could reccomend you a 64 core threadripper 3990x system or a 128 core dual epyc 7742 system

3990x will prob cost around 8-10k

Dual epyc 7742 will cost well over 20k

See what i mean here?

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/g9C7LP

Another mediocre pcpartpicker by me .-.

This should be a sensible config for your needs, just add the gpu and you are good to go

Btw its not very geared towards ocing cause i chose cheaper cooler and board but if you would like to oc then just upgrade the cooler and board

Alright - fair enough!

Well an AIO is presumably going to be pre-built but if I can get a vastly superior vr experience with a DIY job then that's what I'll do. I don't need anything bleeding edge that can render multiple 8k video streams and mine bitcoin at the same time! Just want top end VR. An AIO would just be nice for the formfactor thats all so if I can do it that way then that's better for me.

I'd happily dualboot windows on a high end imac if I could do that, but my understanding is that the bootloader is locked on anything higher than Catalina. I also presume that PSVR for PS5 is also going to be relative garbage

Budget? I'd prefer to keep it under 10K USD which I think should be ample?
