i have a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H for the mother board and a Intel Core i5-4670K

Do you have a board and chip capable?

If so, google "Overclocking [X CPU here]" read every single guide on the first page of google then ask your questions left over here.

OK will do that

Stock cooler?  Or aftermarket?  If you are using stock cooler, I recommend getting a Hyper 212 EVO, its only $30-$35 and is an incredible CPU cooler for its price.

DO NOT attempt to overclock using your stock cooler.  We just had a case of someone else doing it earlier today and frying their CPU.  Don't even attempt it until you have an aftermarket cooler. Hyper 212 EVO will do you good.

For Gigabyte boards (on Ivy)

For Haswell (on Asus)

In general:

1) Test what are highest volts/temps you are running now. That will give nice bottom line what volts you can use before temps skyrocket. I use RealTemp, CPU-Z and OCCT for this.

2) Go to BIOS. Set LCC to Extreme, clock multiplier to manual and to base clock and volts to whatever they were in idle.

3) Raise multiplier so that CPU speed goes 10% up. For 4670K that would be 37 or 38. Don't raise volts. Boot into windows and run OCCT for 15mins. Monitor temps. If they go over 85C, end test and lower clocks/volts. If everthing is ok as no crash, you can go back to BIOS and raise more multiplier. Go for 100Mhz at the time until it crashes during testing. After that raise volts until its stable again or you hit 1.3V mark (highest reasonable for Haswell).

4) Repeat 3 until you found the sweet spot. Then run OCCT for 3h to test stability.

In Linus's video he said to update the bios. is this a requirement?  And thanks this is good for me because i learn by reading step by step instructions.

For your board I would highly recommend it. Gigabyte released new BIOS version which claims (and user in here have validated) that it gives more stable overclocks. Use Gigabytes App Center and @BIOS to do it. Its easiest way.

Can't really say. I don't remember whether I used @BIOS or Easytune to do it. Here's Gigabytes guide how to do it. http://www.gigabyte.com/webpage/20/HowToReflashBIOS.html The PDF guides are pretty good.

I tried qflash and it said to update my flash and it continued to fail on my @bios for the App center. is there a manual way to update my bios? and should i make a new post in trouble shooting for this?

The "Manual" way is to download latest BIOS from mobos site at Gigabytes pages, extract it to USB stick, and boot into it when POST screen is showing. There's propably guide on how to do it on that Gigabyte link I gave. It it continues to give error then I don't know whats wrong with it.

E: or you may need to try previous version first like if you have F3 now, try F7 first and then update to F9.
